Chapter 328: Entering Bull Territory
Chapter 328: Entering Bull Territory
"Enough pointless talk. Die."
Rosalia made no attempt to hide the killing intent in her eyes.
Divine power surged violently into her blade. Accompanied by a deafening rush of wind pressure, she unleashed a devastating slash.
Broken Wing dodged the strike, but the sword energy still swept across her body, leaving her completely unable to counterattack.
"Pfft!"
The violent torrent of sword energy forced a huge mouthful of blood from her lips.
"I’ve lost this time. The next time we meet, I’ll devour every inch of your flesh."
With those words, Broken Wing spread her wings and rapidly ascended into the sky.
"Don’t think you’re getting away!"
Rosalia swung her greatsword horizontally, attempting to intercept her with another wave of sword energy.
To her surprise, Broken Wing suddenly accelerated and changed direction midair, twisting into an unnatural trajectory as she fled north.
"Huh? She’s not escaping south?"
Rosalia blinked.
"My prediction was wrong."
She had assumed Broken Wing would retreat toward Bull Territory. Instead, she was fleeing north.
Just as Rosalia was about to give chase, one of Phield’s corrupted black crows descended from above and landed on her snowy shoulder.
"Don’t pursue her. I just saw how fast she can move when escaping. It’s unbelievably fast."
The crow mirrored Phield’s mannerisms, even shaking its head in a distinctly human way.
"I underestimated the vitality of a Third Tier Divine Chosen. Come to me first. We’re entering Bull Territory."
Wars within the Empire were much the same.
The lowest-ranking slave soldiers suffered the highest casualty rates, while Divine Chosen rarely died in battle.
"But she..."
Rosalia sighed.
"What a waste. My prey got away."
"Don’t worry about it."
The crow replied calmly.
"My plan was only to lure her away. Killing her was never a requirement. Besides, her divine artifact never underwent Dissolution. We probably couldn’t have killed her anyway."
A dissolved divine artifact could grant a terrifying increase in power.
Rosalia flicked the filth from her greatsword and tilted her head regretfully.
"Someone like her is basically a giant fly. If we meet again, she’ll probably be even more troublesome."
"Don’t panic."
The crow responded.
"Sometimes enemies find ways to get themselves killed."
Rosalia smiled faintly.
"Fine. Then I’m heading back."
"Don’t forget Jamie. She’ll be useful."
By the time Rosalia arrived at the border fortress, Ophelia’s corpse army had almost completely infiltrated the fortress. Only a handful of higher-ranked corpses remained outside.
"You’ve worked hard."
Phield gave Rosalia a thumbs-up.
"You handle most of the important work in Nightfall Domain. Honestly, I don’t even know how to thank you."
"Obviously by treating every one of my toes like can..."
"Mmph!"
"Alright, alright."
Phield nearly burst out laughing and quickly covered her mouth.
"Let’s not say anything that hurts team unity."
Then he continued seriously.
"Now that we’ve driven away the bug girl, it’s time to infiltrate the fortress."
Corrupted Divine Chosen could distinguish friend from foe. If Broken Wing had remained here, infiltration would have been impossible.
"But we don’t look like corpses."
Rosalia touched her face.
"Though if I stabbed myself a few times, I’d probably look more terrifying."
Ophelia froze in shock. Even her smooth tail stiffened instantly.
"You’re ruthless."
She stared at Rosalia.
"I don’t have your regeneration abilities. Don’t stab me. I hate pain."
"No need."
Phield raised both hands.
"We don’t have to go that far. Return to the sword. Leave the rest to me."
He summoned two enormous bloated corpses.
These First Tier corpses resembled gigantic pregnant women, each carrying a barrel’s worth of acid inside their swollen abdomens. They were known as Acid Corpses.
Their corrosive spit had caused Phield plenty of trouble in the past.
"What are you planning..."
Ophelia stared as Phield compared body sizes.
"Wait... don’t tell me..."
Realization dawned on her.
"You’re hiding inside a corpse!"
"Exactly."
Phield grinned.
"Took you long enough to figure it out."
"Keep them under control. Don’t let them go berserk."
Drawing his sword, Phield sliced open the corpse’s abdomen.
"ROAR!"
The Acid Corpse let out a painful growl.
Phield tossed the unconscious Jamie inside.
Immediately, twisted tentacles emerged from the corpse’s stomach and swayed like underwater weeds.
Without hesitation, Phield mentally censored his own vision.
This was far too disturbing to look at directly.
"Mmm..."
To his astonishment, Jamie’s unconscious expression relaxed.
A foolish smile even appeared on her face.
"Holy crap!"
Phield’s mouth dropped open wide enough to fit a pear.
"There’s a defeat animation hidden in here too?!"
He stared in disbelief.
"There are secret mechanics? Corpses are incredible."
Ophelia looked at him as though he were garbage.
Her eyes were filled with contempt and disgust.
"Phield, you already knew about this, didn’t you?"
She narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"Were you planning to try this on me?"
"Not even remotely."
Phield rolled his eyes.
"Can you control the corpses and stop all this nonsense?"
"You can remove the Acid Corpse’s internal organs. It’ll stay alive."
Unable to watch any longer, Ophelia transformed the Sphere of the Abyss into a pair of sapphire dragon claws.
With swift movements, she dug out the Acid Corpse’s organs.
"There."
She shook her hands in disgust.
"No more weird things."
Trying to wipe the filth onto Phield’s clothes, she lunged toward him.
Phield dodged gracefully.
Placing the Greatsword of Gluttony beside Jamie to prevent her from escaping, he gave his orders.
"We’ll hide separately. Once we’re through the fortress, we’ll regroup."
"Do I really have to go inside?"
Ophelia repeatedly extended and retracted her clawed foot.
"I have cleanliness issues. Even without the tentacles, this is disgusting."
She gritted her teeth.
"If only I could hide inside a weapon."
She glared at him.
"You trash lord. Making me do something this revolting."
"How about this?"
Phield narrowed his eyes.
"I’ll give you motivation."
"What kind?"
"A chance to devour territory."
"Deal!"
Without another word, Ophelia obediently climbed into the corpse’s stomach.
"Now we leave it to luck."
Taking a deep breath of fresh air, Phield pinched his nose shut.
Suppressing a heartbeat that felt ready to burst from his throat, he climbed inside as well.
Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened.
The group passed through the fortress with remarkable ease.
In truth, Phield had never needed to worry.
The flow of corpses into Bull Territory was hardly a rare occurrence.
Since the rebels occupied Bull Territory, at least thirty thousand corpses had passed through the fortress and entered the civilized world.
After crossing the fortress passageways, they followed the route of the corpse tide and eventually arrived at the familiar lands of Bull Territory.
Under Ophelia’s control, the corpse army diverted into an abandoned forest.
"Bleeegh!"
The moment he crawled out of the corpse’s stomach, Phield could no longer endure the nausea.
He immediately vomited.
"This plan was absolutely awful."
He wiped his mouth.
"I’m never doing something this brain-dead again."
Phield almost wanted to slap himself.
Fortunately, he was already a Third Tier Knight.
Otherwise, the overwhelmingly foul odor inside the Acid Corpse would have been enough to kill him ten thousand times over.
"Wait..."
He froze.
"An uncontracted Divine Chosen?"
Wiping away the remnants of vomit from the corner of his mouth, Phield subconsciously glanced at the minimap.
